The Same – A Poem

Standard

We all sound the same
when we’re shouting,
We all sound the same
when we’re at peace,
We all sound the same
when we’re dead on the battlefield,
We are all the same
but there’s still no release.

We all speak the same
language when we silently protest,
We all speak the same
language when we’re in love,
We all speak the same
language of hope when we imagine,
We are all the same
but the default is push and shove.

We all look the same
when we’re bathed in obscurity,
We all look the same
when we’re under the ground,
We all look the same
when we hide from Hitler’s neo-henchmen,
We are all the same
But there’s no new solution found.

We all feel the same
pain when food is just a memory,
We all feel the same
pain when home is a place we’ve never been,
We all feel the same
pain when kindness is just a grim fairytale,
We are all the same
but the resemblance is never seen.

We all hate
breathing the same air,
We all hate
sharing the same days,
We all hate
the confines of this same planet,
We are all the same
in all the same ways.
